I Can Only Imagine

I am baffled by the low ratings of the movie I Can Only Imagine by “professional” critics, especially when I see a 95% positive audience rating and glowing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

I can’t think of a more relatable movie than this one. One of a troubled childhood with music, writing, and faith to see you through the tough times. I lived that life! I know it is real.

I love movies that make you curious to want to know more. I remember when the song I Can Only Imagine came out and started to get air play on pop and country music radio stations. I didn’t give a second thought about it being a Christian song that was crossing genres. I had no idea how popular it became. I had no idea that the writer of the song and his band went on to have 21 more #1 hits!

I thought Dennis Quaid‘s performance in the movie was amazing and deserves an award. It made me wonder what he is up to these days, so I did a Google search where I discovered his band The Sharks. I had no idea he is also a musician.

The best movies make you curious to learn more about the artists, the history, and the message. I’m definitely a new fan of Mercy Me and have new found respect for Amy Grant after discovering her generous gesture of sharing the stage with Bart Millard and giving his song back to him. The history I can relate to on a personal level. The message of forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation, and pursuing your dreams is one that will likely inspire millions to live their truth in ways I can only imagine!
